Northern Virginia Conservation Trust: Read-a-thon
Join Northern Virginia Conservation Trust for an event uplifting the voices of conservationists of diverse backgrounds. You'll get to read and listen to passages about and by those who have dedicated their lives to safeguarding nature. Our Conservationists of Color Read-a-Thon will be back at Busboys & Poets in Shirlington on Sun., Jan. 26 from 5-7 p.m. Please RSVP using this link if you plan to attend.

National Hot Chocolate Day
Celebrate National Hot Chocolate Day on Fri., Jan. 31, from 3-4 p.m. at Gulf Branch Nature Center! Designed for kids ages 6 to 10, join a naturalist to explore the sweet story of chocolate. Learn where it comes from, how it’s made into so many different treats, and why it’s so delicious. Family Art Lab: Valentines Cards and Boxes
Share the love with these homemade Valentine cards and boxes on Sat., Feb. 1 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Arlington Mill Community Center. Using decorative paper, stickers, and a variety of other supplies, you can create something from the heart! Each person (including adults) attending the program needs to register, and all children must be supervised by a participating adult. $8. Learn more and sign up here.

Park Corps: Now Accepting Applications!
Teens ages 16-18. Join the Park Corps at Long Branch Nature Center and work alongside Arlington’s natural resource professionals in areas like forestry, wildlife management, education, habitat restoration, and more. Gain real-world experience, build job skills, and make connections with like-minded students — all while enjoying the outdoors. Pay: $200 stipend. Apply here by Wed., Feb. 5!

Red Cross Babysitting Class
The Red Cross Babysitting Class on Sat., Feb. 8, from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. at Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center will provide youth with the knowledge and skills needed to safely and responsibly care for children and infants. Participants will learn leadership skills, how to develop a babysitting business, and how to keep themselves and others safe. Cost: $85. Register here.

Adult Skate Night: Feb 15!
Love is in the air... and on the rink! Grab your sweetheart, bestie, or your whole crew this valentine's day weekend for Adult Skate Night! Join us at Thomas Jefferson Community Center on Sat., Feb. 15 6-9 p.m. for a night of fun, music, a photo booth, and sweet valentine's day vibes.
We encourage you to pre-register online to reserve your skate size, as they often run out. Have your own skates? Register early online or walk in. Registration opens one week before event date.

Know someone dedicated to improving our parks and public spaces? Nominate them for the 2024 Bill Thomas Park Volunteer Award! Nominees should have hands-on, multi-year experience in improving or maintaining parklands, natural resources, habitats, or outdoor public spaces.
