Gov. Dunleavy points to ‘temporary’ and ‘painful’ measures to address Cook Inlet gas crunch, as legislators say their role may be limited →

As utilities warn of the possibility of rising costs and rolling blackouts, the governor and key lawmakers say they’re focused on longer-term energy solutions, and returning to Alaska-based fuels for the region. Meanwhile, power and heating costs for Railbelt residents are expected to rise.

Anchorage School District proposes cutting teacher positions, middle school sports and more amid flat state funding →

The proposed budget would increase the student-to-teacher ratio by four. In doing so, the district would eliminate roughly 200 teacher positions. The proposal also calls for cutting librarian and school nurse positions, as well as a program serving gifted students.

Hundreds of women took part in the 29th annual Alaska Ski For Women in the sunshine at Kincaid Park on Sunday. The fundraising event helps support the Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage and Alaska nonprofits working to end domestic violence.
